| Item | # 0004231973 | | Family | Cypraeidae | | Name | Lyncina sulcidentata - LITTLE TYKE , J.E. Gray 1824 |
| Size | 25.6 mm |
| Locality | Oahu, Hawaii |
| Note | Solid, heavy and a thick glassy nacre underscores this standout endemic Hawaiian "little tyke" classic. The specimen shows excellent form, size/weight ratio, color, intense banding and perfect extremities and base. An outstanding specimen with sparkling nacre gloss, four crisp transverse bands and is close to the world record smallest ever collected. This is a shell that would highlight any cowrie collection, especially those featuring smaller sizes. Taken by Scuba diver in the Pearl Harbor Channel, Oahu, Hawaii at 6-8 meters in 1999. The specimen has a subtle subnacre growth crease in the columellar posterior ramp seen under higher magnification. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
