| Note | Uniquely maculated pattern and superbly pigmented specimen, impressive example of the subspecies, Deep water collected well past "safe" Scuba depth range. Striking dorsal pattern with smashing spotting/blotching trimmed by strong columellar lateral wall spotting and much sparser on the labral side. The specimen is suggests a transitional intermediate form between venusta venusta and venusta episema. The superb camel and desert sand tan pronounced extremities are flawless with an off-paste apricot flawless base and the labral misty blue halo. The shell has excellent nacre gloss and a strong weight/size ratio (52.7 grams). The shell was ROV grabbed while tramping along the sand at 70 meters near Figure Eight Island, in Esperance Bay, southwest Western Australia in 5/2020. The shell has a shallow palpable fold on the labral posterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM minus. |
