|
| Item | # 0004231981 | | Family | Terebridae | | Name | Oxymeris maculata - MARLIN SPIKE , Linnaeus, 1758 |
| Size | 187.1 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Oahu, Hawaii |
| Note | Large and heavy Marlin Spike captured from the Hawaiian Islands. The weight alone is impressive, but the perfect spire and intact body whorl are notable from a collector's perspective. Great color, form and size complement this impressive terebra. Super heavy shell, like a lead spike weighing in at 204.6 grams. Taken by Scuba diver while it was plowing through sand at 30-35 meters off North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii in 2012 on a night dive. A very collectable specimen in spite of minor imperfections. Two very shallow chips on the natural lip and a nicked protoconch. Grade: F++/F+++. |
