| Note | Superb and gracefully pigmented example of this only cowrie found in Californian waters. Dark merigold/carrot dorsal blotch bordered by a black undulating halo sprinkled with wonderful star-like flecking. The shell has a solid nacre shine, perfect extremities, base and dorsum. The lateral walls exhibit strong lavender hues that transform into an eggshell white base. A modest sized and standout visually impressive specimen. Taken by free diver among marine growth and urchins in granite rock pockets at 2-3 meters off Point Dume, California in the 80s. Grade: GEM. |
