NoteThis is the largest specimen which I have obtained of Fissurella costata. The last review of Chilean Fissurellidae indicates a maximum size of 89.3 mm, while Hardy's Internet Guide indicates a maximum size of 90 mm. This one measures 100.7 mm, which is larger than any other recorded specimen. Fissurella costata is a rare species, which is now hard to obtain, and this specimen is in very good condition for the species, with a very nice interior of the shell, very shiny and nice, with only tiny nicks in the border, and a natural dorsum covered with red algae, which can be cleaned if necessary. Excellent data for this specimen, including coordinates.
