| Note | I almost forgot of this particular guttata until a few days ago, when it came out in a tupperware of shells that included cowries showing features not typical for the collecting location. This guttata has the appearance of the typical central-south Philippines guttata guttata (sharp large white dots, pyriform shape, weight, etc) but it was collected by trawlers in the stretch of water between Vietnam on the west and the Spratly Islands on the east, an area that is considered part of the South-East China Sea (traditional guttata azumai habitat). I obtained this shell back in 1999 from a Quirino Hora's fishermen in Cebu, who claimed that guttatas in that area come up in bottom nets dredging in 100-200 mt together with Mikadotrochus hirasei. Is a beautiful F++/Gem shell with just micro sand grains among the teeth. |
