| Name | Umbilia armeniaca - MASSIVE 108.9 mm GIANT , Verco, 1912 |
| Size | 108.2 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | One of the LARGEST and most IMPRESSIVE armeniaca of the JES Collection, this MONUMENTAL specimen of the classic Great Australian Bight form closely approaches the 110 mm threshold. Markedly inflated pyriform, enhancing its imposing presence, and making the specimen seem even larger than its length suggests. Rare quality for such enormous size. Exceedingly few specimens of this size and quality were ever collected during the long gone days of availability. Not freshly collected for almost three decades, and now obtainable only from the choicest old collections, and almost never like this. Specimens of such size and quality are now highly coveted ‘collector’s items’ amongst advanced Umbilia specialists. A standout GIANT armeniaca for the Umbilia connoisseur. Data: Great Australian Bight, off Ceduna, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 140-150 m; 1999. Size: 108.2 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
