| Note | Large calloused and oval example of this distinctive and highly sought after Luria species. This specimen exhibits deep nacre lustre, strong color, a definitive and much coveted checker pattern with remarkable symmetry, perfect extremities and aperture teeth. The shell displays an excellent size/weight ratio (15.1 grams), exhibits two white base stripes and two defined transverse white bands on the dorsum. The shells reveals a flawless base and perfect thick calloused extremities complemented by remarkable bilateral blotches. The pattern on this specimen is admirable and exemplifies its collectible nature. The "tessy" was collected by Scuba diver off Nanakuli, Oahu, Hawaii on 8/18/1955. NOTE: This was collected early in Scuba diving history when the equipment was first commercially available internationally and in the Hawaiian Islands. The large specimen under magnification shows a soft/shallow negligible growth crease on the labral anterior ramp and a thin micro-glazed nacre window on the posterior extremity lateral wall. Grade: F+++/GEM minus. |
