Habe, 1953 Taiwan, Southwest Taiwan, off Donggang | 300 m | On sunken wood | 4.5 mm A truly spectacular and rather rare Seguenzia hosyu, a minute deep-water member of the Seguenziidae, here collected from sunken wood off Donggang, southwestern Taiwan, at 300 m. The species is normally only around 3–5 mm, making this 4.5 mm specimen a particularly good-sized example. This species is especially remarkable for its extraordinarily intricate shell sculpture, with the fine, elaborate spiral and axial elements giving the shell an almost architectural appearance. Despite its tiny size, it is one of those shells that reveals an astonishing amount of detail under magnification. The specimen offered here is in very good condition, with the sculpture exceptionally well preserved. A rare and highly desirable species for collectors of Seguenziidae and deep-water microgastropods. |
