FamilyEpitoniidae
NameCirsotrema rugosum - ULTRA-LARGE - THE BEST , Kuroda, T., & Itô, K., 1961
Size89.7 mm, w/o

NoteAt virtually 90 mm, this EXCEEDINGLY RARE ULTRA-LARGE specimen is one of the FINEST I have ever encountered of this incredibly beautiful deep-water species. Extremely RARE QUALITY for such size, incorporating an exemplary level of preservation of the ultra-delicate axial varices, and exceedingly rare retention of the pin-point protoconch. High quality specimens of this rare size are much coveted ‘collector’s items’, and command a premium. A rare opportunity for the advanced Epitoniidae specialist, or admirer of rare and exquisite seashells. Data: Off Dasalan, Basilan, Sulu Archipelago, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Peninsula, Mindanao, Philippines; upon sand/mud substrate; 100-200 m; tangle nets; 2007. Size: 89.7 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
