| Note | Very rare and unusual specimen from an old Western Australian collection. Collected from the remote Scott Reef in the Timor Sea between northern Australia and southern Indonesia, this reef hosts a population of bright orange Chicoreus brunneus. These specimens closely resemble the form 'huttoniae' from NC in both colouration and spine configuration, however is found on the other side of the country. Impossible to acquire now, with the remote nature of Scott Reef and the establishment of the area as a marine park. Only a handful of specimens were collected in the 80's-90's on privately funded collecting expeditions. Fantastic condition, with nearly perfect spines however unfortunately the protoconch has been chipped ~ F+++. One for the murex specialist, dont miss your chance! |
