| Note | SPECIAL SALE – MASTERPIECES OF THE JES COLLECTION: One of the FINEST known specimens of this exceedingly RARE, deep-water, endemic north-western Australian species. LIVE-COLLECTED quality – PERFECTION, with ultra-delicate pin-point protoconch INTACT. The specimen is the BEST of only a handful of specimens obtained a quarter of a century ago via deep-water prawn trawling operations undertaken off a rare, far northern locality. Beautiful subtle colour: pale orange-ochre, decorated with three broad spiral bands of pure white triangular markings. Hypermature, with greatly thickened shell walls and apertural lip. Markedly elongate, upturned siphonal canal. An exceedingly rare opportunity for a highly advanced Volutidae specialist to add one of the FINEST known specimens of this elusive, almost impossible to obtain species to their collection. Data: 20 km off western coast of Howard Island, East Arnhem Region, Northern Territory, Australia; upon sand substrate; 120-220 m; trawled; 2000. Size: 78.7 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
