| Note | SPECIAL SALE – MASTERPIECES OF THE JES COLLECTION: A MAGNIFICENT large specimen of the ULTRA-RARE LAVENDER colour form of this elusive, endemic south-western Australian species. The specimen was collected by, and retained in the private collection of legendary shell diver PETER CLARKSON, author of the seminal ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’, and, although no original Clarkson label accompanies the specimen, Clarkson provenance is established via the fact that he was the SOLE source for the extremely rare colour forms of this species from this locality, having spent an inordinate amount of time in pursuit of their discovery. An exceedingly rare opportunity for a highly advanced Muricidae specialist to acquire a Clarkson-collected example of the RAREST COLOUR FORM of an already rare species. Data: Off Esperance, Goldfields-Esperance region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand/gravel substrate; 36 m; dived; 1999. Size: 49.1 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: 1) Peter Clarkson, Port Lincoln; 2) JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
