| Note | Very hard to get, limited edition, iconic book, very good condition, minor defect, published 1995, 84 color plates, 517 pages, size 24x32,5 cm, This book covers the family Conidae found in the Indo-Pacific and it is the first of a proposed three volume set. The set was never completed and this volume is the only one that ever was printed. It has been out of print and in high demand for a number of years and today it is almost impossible to find a copy of this book offered for sale at a less than astronomical price. The book contains complete descriptive information and illustrates with color photos 316 species of Conus recognized as valid taxa by the author. An additional 19 species are described which are of uncertain taxonomic status and 34 specimens are listed that are not assignable to any known Conus species. The first 73 plates illustrate the shells described in the text most often with several views and with specimens from different localities. Plates 74 to 76 give us drawings of the coloration of the bodies of these shells and the final plates give us photos of living animals, This is an exceptionally well photographed book and its quality adds to the demand and accounts for the scarcity of this book, book is very heavy, postage is 20? in Europe, other 30? |
