| Note | A superb, recently collected specimen of the Bernier Island form - the king of rosselli variants. (For a detailed presentation of this spectacular form, see my article: The Magnificent Bernier Island Form of Zoila rosselli; Beautiful Cowries Magazine No.8; pp.23-25). The specimen exhibits all the hallmarks of this singular, isolated far northern population: ultra-large size; great weight to size ratio; markedly broad form; and with inky black being the predominating colour, with an expansive, axial cloud of copper-yellow at the dorsal midpoint. In addition, the current specimen possesses one of the most graceful outlines, (when viewed from a dorsal perspective), that I have ever observed in a Bernier rosselli: extremely broad pyriform, markedly attenuated towards the anterior. It is important to note that the Bernier Island form invariably exhibits natural flaws upon account of its high activity habitat and heavy shell. Sand grain inclusions, coral/rock scratches, and nacre damage exist in varying degrees upon every example. In the current example there are a couple a sand grains towards the posterior margin, a coral scratch upon the ventrum, and a couple of isolated nacre blemishes, none of which detract from the beauty and impact of the specimen.
