Item | # 0001962015 | Family | Epitoniidae | Name | Granuiscala granosa - RARE LIVE-COLLECTED; BIG , Quoy & Gaimard, 1834 |
Size | 31.4 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A very large, fully mature, rare live-collected specimen of this elusive South-East Australian endemic species. Although not uncommon in beach drift at certain localities, live-collected examples are rarely seen, as the species generally lives below the intertidal zone under heavy slabs. It is a pleasure to see this usually badly beach-worn species in mature, live-collected, and perfect condition, with a sharp apex and its axial sculpture unworn. Rare retention of the ultra-delicate operculum. An important specimen for the Epitoniidae specialist. Size: 31.4 mm (length). Grading: Gem; w/o. Data: Cat Bay, Phillip Island, Westernport Peninsula, Victoria, Australia; under rock slab, upon rock reef, amongst algae and sponges; 4-6 m; dived; 1982. |
