Item | # 0001977959 | Family | Turbinellidae | Name | Tudicula kurtzi and armigera - RARE; INTERMEDIATE , Macpherson, J.H., 1963 |
Size | 76.2 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This superb specimen represents an intermediate between T. armigera and the far rarer T. kurtzi, most likely indicating that the latter is an extreme form of the former. Few examples of this beautiful form are to be found in the collections of the world, and this is undoubtedly one of the BEST I have ever handled, exhibiting a background hue of pinkish-orangish peach to the otherwise pure white shell. Spines in an excellent overall state of preservation, with only the most minimal typical loss, (see above right image), and restricted trawl loss at termination of elongate siphonal canal. Ultra-large mammillate protoconch intact. Size: 76.2 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Warrior Reef, Torres Strait, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 100-220 m; trawled; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
