Item | # 0001979518 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Umbilia armeniaca andreyi , Lorenz & Beales 2013 |
Size | 71 mm |
Locality | Augusta, WA |
Note | This specimen is heavy, mature and without a growth defect. It shows the classic characteristics that distinguish the form I have taken the liberty to refer to as "porcelaina". It has the china white base, mauve brown umbium patch and the side coloration that extends onto the columnar base. These feature in my opinion separate it from all other armeniaca. It is a dead collected shell taken in shallow water (162 metres) south west of Augusta. The dorsal nacre has minor abrasion and there is some very fine pin hole in the labial base. Nice representative specimen of this new form. |
