Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila marginata ketyana - Now Rarely Collected !!! , Raybaudi, 1978 |
Size | 48.6 mm |
Locality | Shark Bay, WA |
Note | Stunning shell collected in deep water west of Shark Bay. We thought these shells were extinct due to recurring hot water events associated with climatic change. We where pleased to find that this was not the case and they still survive in some areas. This is a fresh dead collected shell. It has the classic ketyana dorsum and a brilliant orange base with the classic black indentations. It's siphons are intact but the nacre is scuffed a little. It is a nice representative specimen of a very difficult to obtain form of marginata. |
