Item | # 0002004981 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Umbilia hesitata - RARE YELLOW HOWELLI |
Size | 93.5 mm |
Locality | NE Bass Strait |
Note | I recently sorted through 300+ hesitata trawled over the previous year, and have selected some of the best ones (top 10%) for auction. Some high class shells will be listed here and on the next auction. Here is a very scarce colour form, the yellow variation of howelli. Compared side-by-side with a normal, pure-white howelli this shell is distinctly yellow. I have handled only 3 gems of this kind amongst trawled shells over the last 25 years. This shell has a subtle flake-style chip in the posterior canal, but is free of growth flaws and presents extremely well. There are a few micro surface imperfections here and there, but really a very presentable shell for this rare form. I'm unlikely to be able to auction better. Weight = 61g. Trawled from the north-eastern sector of Bass Strait, 2017. |
