Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE: This is an extra special sale comprised entirely of exceptional specimens drawn from my private collection, being sold to benefit arts philanthropy, as I am moving in a new collecting direction. These specimens represent innumerable upgrades and highlights of my collecting and dealing career, and in many cases are the finest examples of the species which have ever passed through my hands. Please enjoy this opportunity to acquire many outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. ATHLETA STUDERI: An extremely large and virtually perfect specimen of this deep-water, trawled endemic North-Eastern Australian species. Superb pattern formed with uncommon regularity. Fine spiral sculpture readily discernible. Protoconch intact. Collected during the 1980s Queensland trawls by legendary Australian shell discoverer Tom Nielsen, (original Nielsen label accompanies the specimen), and now obtainable only from old collections. It is very difficult to obtain a specimen of this size and quality. Size: 55.6 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-120 m; trawled; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
