Size | 71.7 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This is the largest and BEST specimen of the big Taiwanese trawled form I have ever handled. Such enormous and striking specimens were collected by Taiwanese vessels working off the north-western Australian coast in the 1970s, and have not been collected since. Obtainable only from choice old collections. Supremely well-formed and beautiful pattern. Perfect outer apertural lip and siphonal canal, without any of the typical smoothing seen in Taiwanese specimens, undertaken at the source when specimens suffered trawl damage. A rare opportunity for the Volutidae specialist. Size: 71.7 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off north-western coast of Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate; 200-400 m; 1970s. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
