Note | The BEST orange giant specimen from my private collection of this recently described, endemic Western Australian species. Exemplary state of preservation for this usually rough, deep-water trawled shell. Previously described as australis, (Sowerby, 1842); considered by some as a giant synonym of asperrima, (Lamarck, 1819); and only last year elevated to full specific rank by Dijkstra & Beu. Now obtainable only from old collections. Size: 108.2 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Carnarvon, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate, amongst sponges; 100-200 m; trawled; 1982. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
