Note | One of the BEST acanthopterus of my private collection, this magnificent, ultra-large specimen represents a beautiful colour form of this endemic north-western Australian species. Whorls of rich caramel-ochre, with chestnut accents at intervarical nodes; varices of rich chocolate. Exceptional quality for such advanced size and age. Supremely balanced proportions. NOTE: The dual indentations upon each varix are NOT damage, but the natural varical formation in this species. Ultra-clean. Now obtainable only from old collections, and very seldom like this. Size: 87.8 mm (length). Grading: Gem; w/o. Data: Off East coast of Dixon Island, Dampier Archipelago, Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate amongst reef; 2-4 m; dived; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
