| Note | SPECIAL ‘CHRISTMAS SALE’ OF EXCEPTIONAL JES PRIVATE COLLECTION SPECIMENS: Originally described as a full species by Cotton, (who rightly recognised its difference to New South Wales specimens, exhibiting finer, broader shells), all Australian lampas are now classified as rubicunda, although, given a decided morphological difference between N.S.W. specimens and those occurring throughout the southern coast, I think it useful to retain the distinction of ‘powelli’ as a form or varietal name. Definitely one of the finest specimens I have ever handled of this variety. Beautiful colours: tan and chestnut maculations, with rich pink-peach early whorls, and cinnamon accents to outer apertural lip and columellar shield. Size: 145.4 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Cape Bridgewater, Portland, Victoria, Australia; upon sand/reef/rubble substrate; 30-50 m; craypot; 1992. |
