| Note | Taken from a geodia sponge in 129 metres of water west of Margaret River in January 2022. In the area west of Margaret River in 120 to 130 metres of water we find huge variation in the friendii population with shells that vary from being very kostini like to those that are very similar to inshore friendii. They have huge diversity in both colour and shape. Both this shell and item 2030796 were collected from the same reef on the same day and in close proximity to each other.
This specimen could best be described as a stunning deep water golden friendii. It's dorsum has tan gold spots dissected by a distinct white mantle line. It has a apricot gold base, margins and siphon trim. Unfortunately one side of it's posterior siphon has a sizeable chip. This has been coated with additional nacre making the issue a natural defect. If the shell was free from this issue, I would price it north of 5,000 euro. Additional photos available on request. It is one of a kind and an ABSOLUTELY STUNNING SHELL !!! |
