Item | # 0003176278 | Family | Strombidae | Name | Strombus alatus - SPECIAL COLOR , Gmelin, 1791 |
Size | 83.70 mm, w/o |
Locality | CelestĂșn, Yucatan, Mexico |
Note | Rarely offered from the Yucatan population. Special beige color form with a white band in the middle, and half of the body whorl smooth. It has a beautiful aperture with two shades of purple. Picked from among dozens of specimens.
It seems to have some sort of growth defect in the outer lip, shown in the pictures, yet still a beautiful shell.
Found alive by a local fisherman, while free diving at 4m deep, on a muddy terrain.
The shell comes with operculum, though it was not shown in the pictures in order to better show the aperture. |
