Item | # 0003292566 | Family | Spondylidae | Name | Spondylus regius - DEEP WATER , Linnaeus, 1758 |
Size | 105.9 mm |
Locality | Philippines |
Note | ALL SPINES IN THIS "REGIUS" WITH FANTASTIC COLORATIO.
The same type of spines as seen in the regius f. cumingi, but then much longer.
This shell stands out of many regius, by the double standard in coloration: the body is reddish-brown and covered with a large number of slightly raised radial ribs. 6 ribs developed more than the others and are covered with thick raised spines, that start yellow at the base, but as they become longer and fringed, they gain in purple, the same reddish-brown purple as seen on the valves.
A quite unique piece in the multiple forms the regius takes. Major piece in any collection. For connoisseurs or Spondylus lovers a unique opportunity.
Philippines. Zamboanga Peninsula. Offshore. 60-80 m.
