Item | # 0003311391 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila friendii friendii - SUPERB BIG BLUE STUNNER , (Gray, 1831) |
Size | 83.24 mm |
Locality | South of Bunbury, Geographe Bay |
Note | Here we have a very LARGE and BLUE example of friendii from the Geographe Bay population. Typically shells from this area are in the 60-75mm range and this specimen far exceeds that at well over 80mm! Aside from the large size of the shell it also has a strong BLUE EMBRYONIC BANDING pattern which is sparsely covered with black spotting on the marginal side and just a few spots above the collumellar side. Lastly this friendii has a lovely ovate shape compared to other shells from this area and PREFECT CANALS on both ends of this shell. Overall this a superb example of a Geographe Bay friendii that would stand out in any collection! F+++/Gem- condition with a couple of very minor blemishes on the dorsum but hardly noticeable. Taken by diver on encrusting green Australis sp. sponge on limestone reef top at 11m. South of Bunbury Marina and North of the Capel River, Geographe Bay, W.A.
