Item | # 0003322424 |
Family | Pectinidae |
Name | Mimachlamys australis - Rare Red / Orange !!! , (G. B. Sowerby II, 1842) |
Size | 80.4 mm |
Locality | Shark Bay, WA |
Note | Live collected from 14 metres of water off Shark Bay. A lovely bright orange shell like a juicy tangelo.
When found they have a thick coat of red sponge that has a symbiotic relationship with the pecten. Until the sponge is removed it is difficult to ascertain the colour of the shells which shows huge diversity from purple brown to orange, red, purple and yellow with white being the rarest colour form.
