Item | # 0003322433 |
Family | Pectinidae |
Name | Fumatus preissiana - Lovely Mauve Shell !!! , Iredale, 1949 |
Size | 84.9 mm |
Locality | Geographe Bay, WA |
Note | Collected from Geographe Bay
in Western Australia in 32
metres of water half buried in
sand. The priessiana form is a
distinguished from type of fumatus
that occurs in Eastern Australia
by a fine radial grove that runs
down the centre of the large
ribs on the basal valve. This
specimen is a deep purple colour with what looks like a pattern snow capped mountains on the basal valve. With a little imagination one can see a flock of birds flying into a sunset over a snow covered mountain range. Perhaps I just have a vivid imagination. Fine+++ |
