Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Leporicypraea mappa f. panerythra - COLOURFUL.....ROSTRATE , Melville, 1888 |
Size | 74.8 mm |
Locality | Philippines |
Note | COLOURFUL......ROSTRATE......From the fabled Philippine population a super glossy piece with a crisp pattern etched into an intense milky dorsum. Rich red to both lower margins. Deep scarlet-red/ruby-red to both flawless extremities. The scarlet red hyper-glazed porcelain-like base is a one of a kind. The shell glows neon red under fluorescent lighting. Thick nacre notable and a characteristic high weight to size ratio known for these for these Philippine exotics. Rostrated. A small subnacre glazed algae pimple on the spire is overwhelmed wholly by the specimen's many fine attributes. More images available. Grade: F+++/Gem. Provenance: from my own collection. Collected by local fisherman; 8-12 meters; off Surigao Island, Philippines; 2012. |
