Neptunea despecta despecta - LARGE , Linnaeus, 1758
Size
150.1 mm
Locality
Iceland
Note
AN ELEGANTLY SHAPED NEPTUNE IN ABOVE-AVERAGE CONDITION. Here is a well above average Despecta, with a remarkable size of 150 mm. The shell is of fantastic quality for the species: better than 99% of Despecta in collections. The Despecta was a classic in the days of "Island" fishing by Belgian boats and Diana Pierre sold vast numbers of them. That time is now almost half a century gone and the material has become very rare. Here we are handling a beautiful "Kidneys Bank" shell that was brought in by Belgian fishermen.
Iceland. South Iceland. Kidneys Bank. 63°N 14°W.L. Trawled by Belgian fisherman. Ex. collection G.T. Poppe.
