Item | # 0003360030 | Family | BIVALVIA | Name | Chama lazarus - WHITE , Linnaeus, 1758 |
Size | 99.6 mm |
Locality | Philippines |
Note | A CHAMA LAZARUS WITH LONG AND CURLED SPINES. Most Chama lazarus are collected in shallow water, where they hide under rocks or coral blocks, most commonly in the 3 to 15 m depth zone. If the burrows are large enough - they live in small caves out of sunlight - the species can develop into a true bloom, as seen here.
Such true flower developments are rather rare. Apart from finding the right cave with a large Lazarus in it, you have to be lucky to collect the piece without breaking off the lower flap, which is usually the case. The large Lazarus offered here has survived all these difficulties and stands out not only for its size, but also for its aesthetic qualities and beautiful coloration. The picture tells the rest.
Philippines. Bohol. Talibon. 5-10 m. 2017.
