Item | # 0003361198 | Family | BIVALVIA | Name | Chama crenulata , Lamarck, 1819 |
Size | 40.6 mm |
Locality | Senegal |
Note | A SPECTACULAR NICKLES CRENULATA FROM SENEGAL. Chama crenulata is endemic to West Africa and has been described in the literature from the Canary Islands north to Gabon. This is a large stretch along these sandy coasts, providing little substrate for species such as Chama, all of which require hard objects to establish. The play of coloration, shapes and spines in this clam, which also has two chocolate-brown bands, is very amazing and delicate. There is only one specimen with these beautiful bands in the literature. One of the better Crenulata seen in recent decades, perhaps even the best.
Senegal. Toubab Dialao. Dredged. 10-15 m.
