Item | # 0003367263 | Family | Ranellidae | Name | Charonia variegata - GIANT , (Lamarck, 1816) |
Size | 300 mm |
Locality | Celestún, Yucatan, Mexico |
Note | This is the biggest specimen we ever had, it is quite an impressive shell, not only for its size, but also for its beautiful colors, as well as its well-preserved early whorls.
It has some discreet growth scars on the body whorl, which seem to always be present on this species. They don’t really take away from the beauty of this piece. The lower lip is a little chipped, but nothing major really.
It was collected alive by divers at 25m deep on a rocky bottom, 28 miles off the Celestún harbor, back in May the 15th, 2024. |
