NoteAN ULTIMATE SET, BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT. Back to the remote cold waters of the north with a surprisingly appealing shell set. This time it's about a common species that can be found in thousands of restaurants: Neptunea cumingii. It is harvested in Japan, China and Korea and is considered a delicacy. The vast majority of mussels are brown in color, but if you select hard, you can find albino mussels like the one pictured below left among the many thousands of mussels. The present albino cumingii differs from the mussels illustrated by the lamellae on the shoulder and is therefore classified as a superior cumingii. The same applies to the mussel with the bright orange-brown coloration. The brown “spiral form” was selected from a dozen shells. It is not particularly rare, but one of the better pieces that is difficult to find. All in all, a spectacular ensemble, with 2 dark brown, striped - orange and cream and one white. Very difficult to put a set like this together. Thousands of shells are needed for this. Practically impossible for private collectors. White = 96.1 mm, Black = 99.8 mm, Banded Brown = 88.2 mm, Banded Orange = 89.3 mm, Brown = 78 mm. China. Yellow Sea. Between Korea and China. Trawled. 2014. #908086
