Item | # 0003378495 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Macrocypraea cervus cervus - KEEPER , Linnaeus 1771 |
Size | 132.9 mm |
Locality | Yucatán, Mexico |
Note | A magnificent heavy and solid specimen with an amazing distribution of spotting and a deep glossy nacre that makes it a real eye-catcher and highly collectable. The outstanding bright white spots are tightly arranged and focused on the labial lateral wall, with a generous dispersion of spots on the dorsum and columellar lateral wall. The shell features a pronounced lateral line, significant transverse banding with remarkable form and color. The size/weight ratio (133 grams) for this shell is very high compared to most cervus specimens, making it a much sought after "keeper." Collected by Scuba diver at 15-18 meters on a cave wall off northeast Yucatán, Mexico circa 2000. There are over-glazed negligible mini-scrapes on the posterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
