Note | The rusty edition of this classic Southern California cowry only located while inhabiting older shipwrecks. This fresh collected specimen exhibits a strong infused rusty colored halo below the dorsal blotch, intense darker hues in the extremities and an intense thick nacre that highlights this particular characteristic of this species subset. Collected by Scuba diver Julian Lee in 2023 on the old Star of Scotland shipwreck while nested inside sea growth just outside the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, California at 23 meters. The specimen exhibits some small subnacre delamination flecks on the dorsum, typical for this species variation. Grade:F+++/GEM minus. |
