Item | # 0003382144 | Family | Turbinidae | Name | Turbo gruneri - RARE EXCEPTIONAL GIANT , Philippi, R.A., 1846 |
Size | 47 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | The LARGEST and BEST specimen I have ever seen of this endemic southern Australian species. PERFECTION. The species typically sustains damage upon account of its rock reef / high current activity habitat. A specimen of this enormous size and quality is exceedingly rare. Colour and pattern of exquisite, subtle beauty – a tapestry of dusky pink, burgundy, and yellowish cream, with a distinct accent of orange to the ventrum. Retention of original operculum. A species of surpassing beauty when seen like this, and a rare opportunity for the Turbinidae specialist, or connoisseur of exceptional seashells. Data: Weeroona Bay, off Portsea, Victoria, Australia; upon rock reef substrate, amongst seagrass, seaweed, algae, and sponges; 14 m; 2012. Size: 47 mm (largest dimension). Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
