| Note | As is well documented, the abundance of ‘black’ thersites which once existed at Stansbury, South Australia, has long gone, and no fresh specimens have been seen in decades. I am, therefore, extremely gratified to report that, in an isolated colony, at a new, undisclosed locality, the ‘black’ thersites still exists in numbers. From the around 100 individuals encountered upon each of the few visits to this new population, the strictest rigour has been observed in collecting only absolute GEM examples, exhibiting the DARKEST colour. So far only FIVE specimens have been collected from this population, (all of which have been handled by myself, via private treaty until this sale), of which the current specimen is the STANDOUT. As the entire shell-collecting world is used to seeing examples which are now 40-50 years old, and often not maintained under the best curation, it is remarkable to see a specimen that is utterly FRESH, exhibiting exceedingly thick, high gloss; ultra-dark colour; and being of absolute PERFECTION. Hypermature, with incredible weight to size ratio – the HEAVIEST ‘black’ thersites for its size I have ever held. A rare opportunity for one fortunate Zoila connoisseur to acquire, study, and enjoy a pristine ‘black’ thersites of extraordinary quality.
