Note | GEM IMPORTANT FLORIDA KNOBBY CHERRY RED BEAUTY. This shell is so incredibly beautiful that I believe a siren or other sea goddess created it for her own pleasure. Shells like this from old collections are often referred to as fragosus, and their main characteristic is the extremely light structure and of course the extremely prominent knobs that make them such an outstanding and desirable object for the collector. Thin as paper and not at all comparable to Nodosus specimens, these shells are old collector's treasures that defy commercial grading. Intense cherry red color on this specimen, which comes from the collection of Doris Underwood and was collected before 1960. Very fragile and delicate shell in completely natural condition without any retouching or restoration. Extremely rare and no more examples have been collected in recent decades, only available from the best private collections. A museum-quality exhibit of breathtaking beauty.
USA, Florida, Cape Canaveral. In 38 m depth, collected before 1960 and later in the collection of Doris Underwood, live taken specimen shell.
