NameMirapecten mirificus f. thaanumi - ORANGE , Dall, Bartsch & Rehder, 1938
Size37 mm
LocalityPhilippines
NoteF+++/GEM. AN ORANGE, BUT ULTIMATELY DIFFICULT TO DEFINE COLORATION. The name "thaanumi" is used for the flat form of M. mirificus. In fact, it is possibly a valid species in its own right. The special feature of this shell is the orange with hints of red and bordeaux here and there, with an undefined warm coloration inside. This is typical of the mirificus/thaanumi caught in the northern Surigao region: their color palette is definitely not the same as the submerged material from the Olango region. Advanced collectors should have a box from each locality to recognize the difference. One of the most beautiful ORANGE Surigao Mirapecten ever collected. The orange-red combination is rare and outstanding. Well sized. Philippines. Surigao. Tangle nets. 80-90 m. 2014. #852087
