Item | # 0003430032 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fissurella crassa - Very Nice, very Large , Lamarck, 1822 |
Size | 83 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One excellent and large specimen of Fissurella crassa. Large Fissurella species in northern Chile are actively collected by fishermen, so they often have nicks and damages on the border of the lip, and they are always found with scurria scars on the shells. This particular specimen is in excellent condition for the species, as it has a perfect border of the lip with no chips or nicks, a nice shiny interior with no boreholes or other damage, and a shell dorsum with no Scurria scars or boreholes or erosion, having a thin layer of natural intritacalx as can be seen in the images (which can be cleaned to reveal the deep chestnut color of the dorsum of the shell of this species). |
