Notopeplum annulatum - MEGA RARE VOLUTE !!! , B. R. Wilson, 1972
Size
41.0 mm
Locality
Leeman, Western Australia
Note
We have recently relocated our vessel from Geraldton to Perth. On the voyage we were lucky enough to find this guy being lunged around by a hermit crab in 195 metres of water west of Leeman during August 2024. Annulatum and baconi we consider two of the rarest volutes inhabiting our lower west coast. To date we have not seen a live specimen and have only collected about five specimens in the last 17 years. It is clearly dead collected but exhibits the two horizontal rows of orange rings that typify the species. I am not sure that a live specimen has ever been collected. We live in hope.
