Item | # 0003453103 |
Family | Pectinidae |
Name | Bractechlamys vexillum - GIANT , Reeve, 1853 |
Size | 73.6 mm |
Locality | Philippines |
Note | F++. THE LARGEST IN OVER 20 YEARS FROM HUNDREDS OF SELECTED SPECIMENS. The Vexillum shown here is one of the largest pieces ever caught. It measures a staggering 70 mm+ and is probably only surpassed by two shells on this planet. The quality of this giant is fine++ - a slight chip on the ear, as you can see, and the coloration is typical of a part of the vexillum: large patches that fade into tiny sparse lines towards the edge, and a few drill holes. A valuable piece as it is possibly the best quality very large piece in existence, or one of the very few. Impossible to obtain even an equivalent - even with strong financial resources.
Philippines. Zamboanga Peninsula. About 25 km north of Zamboanga city. 25-40 m. 2016.
