| Note | F++. COLORFUL BEAUTY IN A COMMON SCALLOP. In collections of European mussels, the drawers of Aequipecten opercularis always receive special attention: this mussel has everything to please. One particular shape crops up regularly: Shells with a dark line on the top of the ribs. This variant was already referred to as "lineatus" at the end of the 18th century: by da Costa. Here are three different forms of lineatus, none of which are easy to obtain or classic. Above, a lineatus doubled with a yellow sunray pattern. On the right a lineatus with an orange-brown ground color, and on the left a lineatus in violet, with a sudden thickening of the line pattern at the edge. An ensemble of rare colors is hard to find.
