Note | Large shell for this now uncommon intertidal California rock shell species, not available in the accessible areas in California/Mexico where they once flourished. Nicely curved short thick upswept varices on the body whorl, intact protoconch, spire, aperture lips and siphonal canal underscore this exquisite example of the species. Clear and classic axial striping painted on the light beige/light brown primary body whorl hue. Collected in the Newport Beach backbay, Newport Beach, California at low tide in the mid-60s. Rough and tough archaic appearing shell displaying some minor erosion of the protoconch. Grade: GEM minus. |
