Item | # 0003472648 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fissurella cumingi - Nice, selected , Reeve, 1849 |
Size | 73 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice and selected specimen of Fissurella cumingi, in very good condition for the species. Large Fissurella species are actively collected by fishermen with hooks, so they often have nicks and damage on the border of the lip, but this particular specimen is in very good condition for the species with only a few shallow nicks in the lip, and with a natural dorsum covered with brown/reddish algae which can be further cleaned. A nice natural history item for a low price. This is an uncommon species, and rare to find in this condition. Fissurella cumingi has shells with delicate margins, so finding one with very good margins like this one is rare. |
