Item | # 0003475974 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila venusta venusta - SHOAL CAPE FORM. , AMAZING UNIQUE DORSAL MARKINGS. RARE MANTLE LINE.. |
Size | 69.7 mm |
Locality | Shoal Cape, S.W. Australia. |
Note | A really attractive specimen with beautiful DARK BROWN/BURGUNDY dorsal markings over a soft cream background. The canals are well saddled with this lovely, strong MAUVE colouration. This SPECIMEN IS EXTREMELY UNIQUE IN PATTERN AND ONE OF A KIND with a unique mantle line rarely seen in this population. The only reference to this population is in "AUSTRALIA'S SPECTACULAR COWRIES" page 268. This Shoal Cape population is rare today and typical specimens normally have silting on the dorsum. It is not really appreciated just how rare the Shoal Cape venusta is to obtain in a reasonable quality. The location is a high energy ocean region with heavy swells and currents, with constant turbulent water. Even the best of the well-known BLACK TOPS and RED TOP venusta from this region have at least some fine to heavy silt pimples and nacre windows. due to the high energy region they live in. GRADED F++, this specimen has soft, fine micro silting and micro nacre windows, and with a SMALL AREA OF MISSING NACRE. I have used the extra images that shellauction allows associated with a E200 starting price. Diver taken in 8M. on reef ledge, Shoal Cape, S.W.Australia. ALL WHITE REFLECTIONS AND DULL AREAS ARE FROM THE CAMERA LIGHTING. |
